Italian Poplar Blockboard - What's So Good About It?

The Italian Poplar Blockboard is a very popular alternative to MDF or particleboard choices.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES?

With its lightweight advantage, the blockboard also holds screws very well that are strong and stable. At 380-450kg/m³ –nearly half the weight of MDF, blockboard is easier to handle, process and manoeuvre around the workshop, and does not impact hinges and hardware on completion of the project.

The material also machines very well, making it ideal for joinery and cutting tenons, dominos or dowels. Additionally, Poplar timber glues well with all regular PVA types of glue. Besides its use in joinery works, the sheer size of these sheets makes it very advantageous for modern furnishings such as furniture and others.

WHAT IS IT MADE FROM?

The Blockboard is made out of a 5-layer veneer, where the core is covered by peeled veneer. Variations can then be added to include a double outer veneer for extra stability, double- core for thicker panels or MDF outer skins for paint finishes.

The ways in which blockboard can be applied are quite extensive. Not only is it great for furniture, but it also can be used for internal doors, sliding doors, pivot hinged doors, large conference tables, meeting tables, long span shelving or high-quality joinery.
