The Durability of Plywood Panels Explained

When selecting materials for interiors, there are two essential features that every designer is looking for: firstly it must be a good fit aesthetically, and second, it must be highly durable and capable of standing the test of time.

While getting the look right is clearly important, choosing a durable material is equally essential. With quality, long-lasting materials, not only will your space look better for longer, it will also be less likely to need repairs or extra maintenance as a result of everyday activities.

So when it comes to durability, how does plywood stack up?

The good news is, our plywood panels are both highly attractive and extremely durable, making them a winning choice for both home interiors and larger commercial projects.

So if you’re looking for a robust material that is as stylish as it is strong, plywood could be the perfect fit – to discover why, read on to learn the key reasons behind ply’s durability.

Plywood is robust to its core

A key reason plywood is highly durable lies in its strong core, which is manufactured to withstand the test of time. As the layers of timber that make up plywood are pressure bonded together with adhesives, it creates strong but flexible panels that are extremely durable. What’s more, the ply layers are cross-laminated, which means every layer’s grain direction is 90° to the next, creating a uniform strength across the entire surface of the panel. This allows our plywood to withstand pressure from different directions for longer, which significantly increases the strength, durability and life span of the product.

Hard wax oil coating further increases durability

Another reason why our plywood is so durable is the hard wax oil coating we use to pre-finish our panels. Made from a blend of quality natural oils and waxes, the hard wax oil system provides two layers of protection. The oils penetrate into the timber, strengthening the core, while the waxes form an elastic, microporous surface that protects the exterior of the panels from moisture and abrasion. The system delivers a winning combination of internal and external protection that significantly increases the durability of our plywood panels.

Durability is a must

When choosing materials for your next project, be sure to opt for durability as a priority. Doing so will mean your interior will look better for longer and require less maintenance – a definite win-win for you and your clients.
