Why Hard Wax Oil is the Right Choice for Timber Finishing

A Hard-wax Oil finish offers significant advantages over other systems such as Lacquer and Water-based Finishing systems, Traditional Oil based systems and Powder-coated systems.

Our range of Maxi Colour Hard Wax Oil finishes protects the timber from the inside, does not form a film and yet leaves a protective, microporous surface.

The advantages of this are that the finish penetrates deeply into the wood and protects the surface; it enhances the natural wood colour; spot repairs can be carried out easily; it does not crack, flake or peel; it has great liquid resistance, and is easy to maintain.

Microporous wood can breathe and improves air quality. Due to its anti-static properties, it is very good for allergy sufferers.

One of the greatest disadvantages of Powder-coated and Lacquered finishes is that they are not able to be spot-repaired and are most likely not repairable on-site, if repaired at all! This is of particular importance to consider for pre-finished timber panels when used in Architectural and Joinery applications because this can be a major limiting factor for the installation contractors. On the other hand, panels finished in Maxi Colour using our Intelligrain System can be easily touched up or repaired on-site should a panel need to be trimmed or machined to fit making the installers life much easier.

All our Maxi Colour finishes are based on oils and waxes: sunflower oil, carnauba and candelila waxes, linseed, soya and thistle oils. Oils retain the value of the natural raw material wood. The binding agents in our oil Wood finishes are based on natural plant oils that penetrate deeply into the wood and protect it from inside.
