Project
Musk Architecture
Schools are one of the foundations of our communities so we were proud to be a part of this school’s new building project. With Jacana School for Autism’s vision coupled with the striking quality of Maxi Print, we were able to contribute to a long-lasting and impactful project.
Project background
Jacana School for Autism is a Victorian State Government specialist school that exclusively addresses the educational needs of students with Autism. The project involved the development of a new Learning Centre, which included a gymnasium, educational rooms, a performing arts space, and a canteen.
As part of this project, a Wurundjeri elder at the school worked with the project planning team and submitted her narrative “The Durrung of the Yan-yan,” which depicts the difficulties a young man faces when hunting in a river. The story inspired the students to choose “Yaluk” – meaning river – as the name for the beautiful new teaching and learning building, and it is what became the inspiration for Musk Architecture for the interior design.
Project goals and objectives
The architect visualised a striking foyer image to welcome visitors and students alike. The platypus that now adorns the school’s new Yaluk Building was a natural choice, as it symbolises the rivers and streams that surround the Yarra River Valley.
One of the challenges of the project however was how to get the supersized platypus print blown up to the desired size and quality. So Musk Architecture came to us for help!
Maxi Print
Maxi Print was the obvious choice – fully customisable and in a range of colours and graphics, with customisable timber profiles, sheet sizes, cuts and thicknesses – the impressive capabilities of our Maxi Print range enabled them to create this striking, oversized platypus wall panel.
Showstopping from every angle, the new platypus print in the building’s foyer is an impressive display of culture and community coming together in stunning print quality. Made from Fire Resistant MDF with a birch veneer, this installation also met the required fire safety standards.
