Unleashing the Creative Potential of Plywood Panels in Interior Design

If you’re looking for a design feature with a point of difference to set your interior space apart, plywood panels offer an exciting world of possibilities. From eye-catching feature walls to show-stopping ceilings, the creative use of timber panels within interiors can elevate your residential or commercial space.

To demonstrate the versatility and beauty of architectural plywood panels, in this article, we’re sharing some of our favourite interior design ideas brought to life with natural wood panels.

A towering centrepiece

Taking inspiration from the industrial and maritime history of the area, a towering plywood-clad ‘rock’ is the star of the show in the architecturally designed Port Melbourne Secondary College. Rising an incredible four storeys in height, this unique and memorable centrepiece is clad in contrasting strips of Maxi Edge Alpine and Fineline and Maxi Veneer Spotted Gum, creating a natural epicentre that houses a range of administration functions and gathering spaces.

Custom cabinetry

Demonstrating the immense versatility of plywood panels, the custom cabinetry and in-built shelving within the Princes Hill residential home are impressive from every angle. Showcased throughout the stunning Melbourne home, Maxi Veneer Blackbutt on Birch was the perfect choice for the wall-to-wall in-built shelving in the luxe living room, finished with seamless sliding doors. Beautifully contrasted with White Maxi Film, Maxi Veneer shines in the kitchen, with a bespoke combination of open shelving, drawers and enclosed cupboards, and elegant built-in wine racks, effortlessly demonstrating a vast array of interior design ideas.

Picturesque plywood

When the St Joseph’s Primary School team were looking for a vibrant focal point in their redevelopment of the original library, our range of timber panels enabled a truly spectacular, award-winning result. Vividly displaying a mixture of bright colours (Red Dust and Yellow Sunflower) and warm, neutral tones (Natural Sand), Maxi Panel is featured extensively throughout, adding visual interest and pops of colour. What truly elevates the space, however, is the magnificent wall murals, featuring artwork supplied by the client, brought to life by Maxi Print panels.

Dramatic contrasting tones

Adding an immediate sense of intrigue and mystery, the Fish Creek House invites the serenity of the Wilsons Prom coastline inside, with the clever combination of black flooring and black Maxi Film ceilings naturally drawing the eye to the spectacular panorama of coastal views and greenery outside. Sustainability was also a priority, and our Maxi Film timber panels ticked that box, being FSC-certified and low-VOC. The finished home is a mesmerising example of how wood panels can enhance interior environments.

Geometric splendour

As a leading manufacturer of illuminated mirrors, Remer was looking for the ideal material to bring their reception and showroom to life, and our Maxi Veneer plywood panels did not disappoint. Timber panels are used in an array of creative ways on the walls and flooring of the floating showroom, as well as a fabulous installation of geometric shapes in the reception area, illuminated from behind for maximum visual impact.

Unleash your creativity with plywood panels

Whether specifying for a large-scale commercial, institutional or residential project, timber panels are the ideal material to bring your creative ideas to life. From unique focal points like the Port Melbourne ‘rock’, to subtle in-built features like the Princes Hill cabinetry, there is no end to the possibilities when you work with architectural plywood panels for both interior and exterior use.
