The Artistry Behind Maxiply’s Premium Plywood Products

From bold innovative curves to intricate decorative features, the versatility of plywood to transform into a wide array of shapes and forms is second to none. While much of the credit for the stunning plywood interiors we see today largely rests with the architects and designers who imagine these beautiful spaces and bring them to life on paper, without the precision and artistry of our highly skilled manufacturing team, none of it would be possible.

Working from our Melbourne manufacturing facility, our team creates most of the Maxiply products and custom panels to order using cutting-edge CNC technology to ensure the highest quality standards in every sheet produced. Demonstrating the unique versatility of ply, we mould it, curve it, cut it, stain it, laminate it and celebrate the grain, creating the vast array of variations seen in our projects. We also have an in-stock range, including Maxi Film and selected Maxi Evolve products, ready to buy off-shelf.

So in this article, we are celebrating the talents of our manufacturing team to transform the humble Maxiply plywood panel into the truly special pieces seen in our recent projects.

Curves

As architecture is predominately made up of straight lines, the inclusion of curves within a design dramatically changes the look and feel, adding a warmth and ambience that closely mimics the natural forms found within nature. Our team utilises two techniques to create curved plywood panels; the layering technique and flectere detailing.

Showcased in the heart of Sydney in the vibrant Darling Square hub, our Maxi Veneer Blackbutt 1/4 cut curved plywood is a standout feature of the central walkway. On a smaller scale but looking equally impressive, curved Maxi Perforated Panels elevate the ceilings within the Borongook Drysdale Library while the curved arches within the Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School are truly spectacular.

Colours

While we all love the natural beauty of timber, adding vivid colours within interior design can really uplift and enliven a space, which is why our Maxi Colour panels are a popular choice within education and community settings. This is demonstrated in St Francis De Sales School, where the pops of colour are central to the design and really tie it together, while within the award-winning St Joseph’s Primary School Learning Centre the addition of custom wall murals on our Maxi Print panels once again showcases the talents of our manufacturing team to create custom pieces that take interior design to the next level.

Unique

Architects who envision a unique centrepiece for their design often specify plywood to bring it to life, and when you see what our talented team can do, it comes as no surprise. The Cobram Library decorative ceiling is a majestic example, with masses of plywood fins crafted from Maxi Panel that are perfectly placed to weave throughout the space and act as a subtle Wayfinder.

The possibilities are endless when it comes to creating unique design features with Maxiply plywood, particularly when you opt for unique products such as Maxi Deco, Maxi Clad and Maxi Edge, as seen in the enticing Jing Jai Thai eatery where our panels are used in a variety of ways, from the signage and hung lighting, to the walls, bar and furniture, creating an eclectic yet cohesive look that is truly unique.
