The Best Applications for Plywood Products

Today, more and more architects and designers are looking for ways to incorporate natural materials into interiors to create a happy, healthy and harmonious space – and our premium grade plywood is an ideal solution. Plywood is attractive, flexible and durable, and suits a wide range of applications in architecturally designed homes, workplaces, schools and public buildings.

So if you’re considering using ply in your next project, read on for expert tips on the best applications for our panels and decorative plywood.

Ply for interior walls

With a wide range of options available when it comes to colour, timber, size and thickness, the design possibilities of our premium plywood panels for interior walls are vast. The right plywood panels can transform a standard wall into a work of art, and create a warm and welcoming environment for work, rest and play. Plywood can also take your feature walls to new heights, as seen in the magnificent plywood clad ‘rock’ that rises four levels in the heart of the new Port Melbourne Secondary College.

Ply for ceilings

In large public spaces, plywood ceilings bring a sense of calm and promote an ambient environment. In office spaces for example, the warm tones of Maxi Perforated Panel used on ceilings, really lifts the design dynamics, while also keeping with the modern, professional vibe that’s necessary in an office fit out. The recent Botanicca project is a fantastic example of this. On the other hand, the Maxi Film Black used on the ceilings throughout Red Hill House creates a dramatic look, absorbing harsh light and bringing a cool calm to the space.

Ply for joinery

Plywood is also highly suited to certain joinery applications, providing architects with immense design possibilities. Our birch ply products including Maxi Panel, Maxi Veneer and Maxi Film, are popular choices for residential homes, as well as public and commercial spaces. Ply cabinetry adds stylish accents to living zones as seen in a number of our completed projects, including the stunning Fish Creek House. Ply is also ideal for kitchens and bathrooms in the home, although care must be taken to use the correct product, to pre-finish with an additional coat of UV oil and to avoid areas where direct water could contact the board. We also do not recommend plywood for use in doors generally, as moisture, temperature and the surrounding environment can cause slight variations to the natural timber veneers which may affect its performance.

Transform your design with ply

If you’re looking for a stylish, modern and unique design element for your next interior project, ply is the ideal choice for walls, ceilings and joinery.
